We accept SHA, and we'll help you use it

Primegala accepts SHA for eligible services. Bring your national ID and the phone registered with SHA: our front desk checks your eligibility and explains what is covered before treatment.

At the front desk

Three steps to use SHA at Primegala

Since SHA replaced NHIF in October 2024, many families aren't sure how it works. At our front desk it comes down to three steps.

  1. Step 1

    Bring your ID

Your national ID, or your child's birth certificate. Children must be registered as dependants.

  2. Step 2

    Keep your phone handy

You may receive a one-time verification code on the phone number registered with SHA.

  3. Step 3

    We confirm cover first

We check eligibility in the national system and tell you what's covered before treatment begins.

How SHA pays

The three SHA funds, explained

Knowing which fund applies helps you know what to expect. Benefit rules and tariffs are set by SHA and can change. We'll always confirm yours.

Funded by government for registered members at Level 2 and 3 facilities.

Social Health Insurance Fund (SHIF)

Inpatient admission, surgical care, specialist and other services above primary level.

Requires active contributions.

Emergency, Chronic & Critical Illness Fund (ECCIF)

Emergency stabilisation and care, critical illness and chronic conditions beyond SHIF limits.

Supports emergency care at every level.

Emergency care is a right

Under Article 43(2) of the Constitution of Kenya, no one may be denied emergency medical treatment. In an emergency we treat and stabilise first, and check SHA afterwards. Emergency care.

Paying for anything not covered

We accept M-Pesa and cash, and explain any cost before treatment. Payments and insurance.
